When Ken Marquis contacted me about his Landfill Art Project in 2010, I was thrilled and immediately agreed to participate. The topic of pollution and waste has long been at the center of my work and now I had the opportunity to work with a lot of other artists on one coherently organized project that would keep junk out of the landfill, be of cultural value AND raise more public awareness to the problem of mass consumerism, packaging, waste and pollution.
Every artist was sent a hub cap from a junk car, to use as a canvas or starting point for a sculpture or other kind of art work. Initially we were a pretty small group of artists, but the project grew and Ken was able to obtain more hub caps to supply the artists with.
